My car turns itself off!!!
This started happening last week i was doing 70 down the highway and my car just shut off. i put it in neutral and started it back up and it was fine. since then it shuts off everytime i drive it, 4 times in one day! and now when it shuts off it wont start until i pull over and sit for a little while. i just bought a brand new battery because the power cable for my amp came out of its eyelet under the hood, shorted out and fried the battery. when the car shuts off the battery light shows on in the message center and thats it. Ive also gotten the battery tested and its fine.
I am also still dealing with transmisson problems that ive been putting off getting fixed just because of how much it costs. ive experienced hesitation during shifting, shifting at random times, sometimes it will shift up when i go to accelerate out of a turn instead of down. now its gotten to the point where i dont even have an overdrive gear it wont make it past 3rd.
So with that said, if anyone can shed any light on mainly the turning off situation that would be greatly appreciated. Im supposed to take the car to a mechanic on friday, pay 40 dollars and hope they can even find whats wrong with the car. If not ill be wasting my money. They seem to think its the igniton switch, lets hope its that simple
Thanks,
Cory

Usually when a 3800 cuts off abruptly and won't start for a little while, the culprit is usually the Crankshaft Position Sensor or the Ignition Control Module.
Your tranny issue however, could be just the solenoids needing to be replaced... Hopefully no other damage is done, but you never know...

i was having the exact same issues and while the crankshaft position sensor probably has something to do with it as well, i found that mine is shutting down due to heat. Check your fluids, and your cooling fans, i found that mine arent coming on at all. This is burning out the radiator fluid and causing the engine temp shut off to occur and then will turn back on when its cool.
how long has it been since you have replaced the air filter and fuel filter. i had a customer come in complaining of the same issue and i spent two weeks trying to figure it out and then i checked the air filter and i was stopped up and same with the fuel filter. now as far as the tranny goes thats an easy fix its the pressure control selinod and it sits right under the valve body. just remeber though make sure all the check ***** in the valve body stay where they belong
i know when the cat gets hot when it has age on it if it is going bad it will shut it off do to not lettinh gas pass threw it. but i will sugest change the crank position sensor and the ignition module first to see if it clears the simptoms
I have the same issue. It has a hard start, and dies while driving down the road. Some days it's fine, other days it dires 3-4 times on a 40 mile trip. I have been to 2 garages and two different chevy dealerships. First was the fuel filter, NOPE! Then MAF sensor, NOPE! Next was the dealership told me it was the fuel pump. $250 down the drain!! Took it to dealership again today and they say it might be the ignition switch. It ran fine the last 3 days with no problem, and they couldn't get it to act up until it was in the wash bay. Read codes B2958 -P1626 - P0107 - P0171 - P1107 - P0463 PCM shutting down engine. Security light is on. (whitch it had been on ever since I bought the car a year ago, but just started acting up about 4 months ago)If you figure out what is wrong with yours please help us out, or maybe this might help you.
