Default Couple of issues

I have a 2000 Monte carlo LS 3.4--150k miles

I have 2 issues

1. My blinkers and Hazards stopped working, I can kind of beat on the dash above it and it'll work for about 3 seconds then stop. Could it be a bad ground or loose wire? How do I get to it without tearing the dash apart?

2. When I first start the car it has a sort of tapping oily sound then after about a min or 2 it goes away, or sometimes when you drive a little then stop it goes away. I'm using a crappy Fram oil filter and some castrol non synthetic. It sounds like it's coming from the top of the engine.

If I'm not mistaken the emergency flasher switch controls the turn signals and the flashers. I had the same problem with my '02 Impala. I replaced the unit and had no further troubles. On the Impala forum they had all the instructions on removing the dash cover. I'm new over here so I haven't found anything like that yet for the Monte's

with the tappin olily sound is just the valves clicking my grand prix used to do that and my buddys truck does the same thing, i think its just a something a older motor tends to do.

What oil weight are you using? Sounds to be like valve chatter....My newer monte does it sometimes too...Not a big deal. But being you only hear it at start up, MAYBE a lighter weight oil would help cure the problem a little. Like a 5w-30...and if you switched to 10w-40 due to the high milage on you car, maybe try a 5w-40, which you will only find in synthetic due to the large weight gap. Wal-Mart sells Shell Rotella-T synthetic 5w-40 for like 19 bucks a gallon. I use it in my really high milage truck (230K) and it works great!

Otherwise, I would not worry about it.

I had a similar problem with my 04 SS. I had to replace the flasher module which is behind the hazard switch in the dash. I believe there wer 4 screws and a couple of clips hlding the dash on.
