Default Compass has gone haywire!

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them as this is the second time it has happened:

My compass just all of a sudden doesn't work. All of the LCD lines that make up ther letters are on, and it says "cal." I assume that it is calibrating or something, but I didn't ask it to calibrate. Thsi is not normal behavior for this to do it on its own, right; and has anyone had this happen and can confirm it was an issue that was fixed by the dealership?

Thanks, as it's only 2,500 more miles until I have to start paying for all of these stupid breaks!

If I remember I'll post a picture from my phone when I get home and to some bluetooth.

Hi `Matt,
This is the first time I heard of a bad compass : (
My guess would be that
You may have an issue with the RAP module which is retained accessory control module. That keeps the accessories on after the key is turned off. Sometimes, `if you disconnect the battery
for a few minutes to let the system reset, it may work, but
I would take it to your dealer, since you are still under warranty.
Does any other member reading this have a cure/suggestion, or
have this happen to your Monte ?
Please post `ok.
Good Luck `Matt

You must have had power interrupted to the Compass Circuit. My telescope has a built-in Compass and GPS function ... but, when the battery that sustains the Memory Circuit goes dead ... I have to let it find North and level-out each time I use it.

The batteries were going dead because of their exposure to the cold. So, I'd lose Memory every time I turned it off. See if there's a Memory Battery that needs to be replaced.

I hadthat problem with my Jimmy and the owners manual said if the compass says CAL to go in a circle 3 times. It worked. Check your manual to be sure.

With the '06-'07s that is the message when you go into calibration, you could drive in a few small circles until it decides which way it north again. That should take care of it.

Ok, I got into the car, started `it, drove to a parking lot,
start'ed driv'in around in circles/

and then a police car pulled `up with his lights flash'in

~ the `End ~
The moral of the story is to be very, very careful when
you're out there driving in circles, try'in to find `North.
I keep learn'in new things on the MCF
Thanks `Member's : )

Good info guys! Question though, is this going to become normal behavior for the compass to do this every comple of months on its own now?

I'm probably going to run it by the dealership anyway, but I always like to pick the brains of you guys.
