mines doing that too, lol. usually gets pretty obnoxus sounding at idle, but quite a few older 3.1 cars i've heard it on. how far do you typically run the car per day? me, i can pile up 150-200 miles on a slow week, no problems yet but if your worried its gonna lock up then it may be worth the bypass pully, you dont wanna have it fail & not have the part to "fix" it. but if the PO replaced the compressor a couple of times it should not lock up. mines the original, been on the car for 154k miles & not locked up. i just make sure to lube it up when i check my oil & such.

what kinda milage is on your car?

i would say buy the '96 pully, worst case scenario keep the recipt and if it looks compleatly wrong return it. i just remembered today that the reason some stores & websites have the '95 and '96 cars grouped differantly is that the '95 monte carlo works off of the OBD1 computer system while '96 & newer work off of OBD2. stupied way to sort stuff, i know, but i see it quite often, alot of websites do it. heck, alot of 'em group the cars '96-'05, and there is not alot that will interchange between a 5th & 6th gen car, but they do it anyways. scince the pully has nothing to do with the computer system, it should fit.

i had to bypass a smog pump on my 84 all i did was buy a shorter belt. although i'm sure that doesnt help you at all. considering mine is a v-drive belt system not a surpentine
