Default What oil filter?

So... havent been here in a while... as the title states. I know we can use the longer oil filters from the blazer I think it is... but Delco, Mobile1, STP, etc... and what exactly are the models for the extended one... I thought delco was PF52, and I have the mobile1 equivelant now, but Im not doing a change for a while, let me know what I should go with..

EDIT: '03 Monte Carlo, 3800 V6.

The New AC Delco filters are now crap, very poorly and cheaply constructed because they switched manufactures of the filters. So I would stay away from the AC Delco. Also, STP, and Super-tech filters are the EXACT same filter as the new AC Delco filters, just different paint/ label on the can...so stay away form them as well.

The Orange can Frams suck too...

The filters that I recommend are the Mobil 1, Fram Xtended Gaurd, Bosch, Wix, Napa Gold, or K&N...

I am not sure about the alternate longer filter numbers. All I know is the stock filter is an Ac Delco PF 47. Maybe someone else will chime in with part numbers for the rest of the filters in larger filters.

Hope this helps a little.

About 4 or so months ago I noticed the AC Delco ones were different.

Now, IDK if the AC Delcos supplied to GM are made by a different manufacture than the AC Delco's sold to retail stores like Wal-mart, Kragen auto, autozone, etc...I havent got to look at a dealer installed AC Delco in a while. ??? But the ones we can just go out and buy off the shelf at an auto store now suck.

Seems like you are more talking about size, I know there are some f-body guys doing the same, running a truck filter (larger) on the Firebird/Camaro, I can't answer the size but X2 on WIX filters.

ok, I have the bigger filter on my car now with no problem, its just beeen raining here for a while and havent gotten a chance to look under the car at the exact model it is. I'll post up. I definately recommend the bigger one for people who drive their cars a bit harder or who have some modifications done. I'll try the mobile one filter I have already then move to wix filter next change. Gonna get my castrol edge sent to blackstone for analysis, so we'll see just how good that oil is.

Ok, if you want a bigger filter all you need to do is look up the part number for a 91 GMC Sierra, 1/2 ton two wheel drive....4.3 liter. The 4.3 liter filters will fit on the 3800. My friends with GTPs are running the same filter that I use for my 4.3 truck and that is the stock filter for that truck. The 4.3 liter filter is longer which lets you put 5 quarts in, instead of 4.5 quarts. I hope this helps.

i just used and orange fram filter with the rubber dimples on the bottom and it seems fine. its the med quality one. i didnt see the point of the best one that lasts 8000 miles cause you need to change it b4 then anyways, but its only like 3 bucks more, go all out.

Ok thanks guys, got the right one. Reason I want to use the bigger one / more expensive filter is I top swapped my monte carlo last winter, and blackstone said upper end metal wear was high, Im assuming thats just from left over particulate matter when we cleaned all the surfaces of the parts and such, but it cant hurt to get a little extra filtration to protect my rod bearings.
