I have a 02 Monte Carlo SS and my problem is as follows:
When I start the car , it will go into all gears for only a moment or two, then nothing. If it sets for awhile, it will do the same. I don't know if it is a transmission problem or torque converter problem. Please advise.

How many miles on your Monte Carlo ?
Do you have any modifications ?
Have you ever had your transmission serviced ? Fluid changed, filter ? etc ?

Have you checked your auto trans fluid level ?

I have 156000 miles on the car. I have not changed the trans fluid in a while, but the fluid level appears okay. I did add some Lucas trans fix . It was jerking before it stopped working.

 

maybe if you can get to a local auto parts store and see if they can scan the car, sometimes a transmission code will pop up
