Default 2002 Monte Carlo

Hello,

My name is Daniel and I helped by brother Garrett buy a yellow Monte Carlo LS recently. It's an '02 with 71,000 miles on it. It has a sunroof, upgraded stereo, & the race appearance package. We bought it in Dallas for $7000. I thought that was an incredible deal. With the 3.4l v6, I would like to get more power out of it without spending a ton, like maybe $1000. What do you guys think of like a K&N Cold air intake and new exhaust system? What about a computer chip? I would appreciate help.

Garrett is lucky to have a brother that's helps him : )

well the the exhaust what you do is

get rid of the cat for a high flow one
u-bend delete
resonator delete
and then put whatever mufflers you want @ the back, i left the stock ones though...and the sound is pretty good

that will give you about 10 more hp

as for the cold air intake some people say the k*n one doesn't fit, i would think it does, but you can make your own fenderwell intake fairly cheaply and they work pretty good from what i've heard.....but i'm sure the k&n system will work

as for a chip, chips dont do anything really, you can get a programmer by superchips or i think there's a few other companies out there...and i think they help a bit too

welcome to the site

Forgive me for repeating myself. But if it's the same 3.4 that's in the 99-05 Grand Am's, Alero's, and various gm minivans, pay extra attention to your seals and gaskets. Especially thelower intake manifold gasket. We found the bolts had a tendency to loosen off. Some of us decided to use a drop of loctite on the bolts.

The K&N filter intake kit was a very common mod on the grand am forums, and worked out well performance wise. Money well spent. Didn't see as many chip changes though. Free-ing up the restrictive exhaust will give you a noticeable boost too.

Good luck, and happy modding.
