Hi Endo,
I have used a cigarette lighter switch in the past. You just plug it in the outlet and plug your GPS into it. there is a power switch and LED on it, just flip the switch off and no power goes to the GPS or whatever. I got mine at Radio Shack for cheap money years ago, and used to for my siren power when I was using my personal vehicle for fire calls.
