Default car has sat antenna, but no option on radio?

i have a 06 monte ss. the car has the big black factory antenna on the rear of the roof. but when i go thru the "bands" in the radio, the radio doesnt have xm listed. i have the stereo with the 6 disc indash. i read the manual and im doing what its telling me to do. do you guys have any suggestions?. my radio is only offering 1 band of fm, and 1 band of am. do i need to look into the xm receiver, like maybe something came unplugged?

I believe that antenna is for OnStar. You may need to check if you Monte is actually equipped with XM.

Look in the trunk, on the back side of the passenger rear wheel well.

That's where my XM receiver box hides.

I've not traced them all out, but there are two antennas in the glass, one on the windshield and one on the back glass. The shark fin has three cables going in to it - may be all for On Star - though the On Star box only has two antenna cables plugged in.

edit - looked up some RPO codes - see decal inside trunk lid

I have head unit US9 - RADIO AM/FM STEREO, SEEK/SCAN, RDS, MULTIPLE COMPACT DISC, AUTO TONE CONTROL, CLOCK, ETR, MP3 STEREO W/MULTI CD PLAYER(US9)

And XM unit U2K - DIGITAL AUDIO SYSTEM S-BAND DIGITAL S-BAND AUDIO SYS(U2K)

Highly doubt it. Head units that have XM options typically use their own XM add ons and antennas.

from what ive read. its not plug and play to go from factory xm to a aftermarket application with xm. they make antenna adpators to adapt from the factory antenna to a aftermarket. which saves you from running a new antenna in the car. but then you will still need an aftermarket xm tuner to work with the aftermarket deck you have.

I have an aftermarket in dash with navigation and sirius. Through some careful cutting and splicing I managed to use the factory GPS antenna for the aftermarket unit, and the sat radio connection is fairly standard. With an older unit, I was able to plug the xm antenna directly into my Sirius receiver, however with the one I have now, I will have to get an extension cable to reach. I suppose I could cut and splice as these satellite antennas are just two wires, but I would rather do as little of that as possible as I'm not a huge fan of cutting into stock wires.
