Default 1987 factory stereo on the fritz

i have a 1987 monte carlo ss with a factory head unit. recently my display stopped working and it no longer picks up radio signal. all it plays over the speakers is static.
the tape deck does work and will play music, so i know that power and speaker wiring is good. could it possibly be the head unit itself? or an antenna issue?
help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

welcome. I would guess it's probably dead. You should just replace it. If your looking to keep the stock look you could just leave the old radio in the dash and mount the new one in the glove box.
