which amp to use for single L5 kicker?
ok so i picked up some amp/sub deal over the past weekend. now i have 2 amps that i don't know which will sound better for my liking. music i listen to are metal and classic rocks and i'm looking for a clean sound with little bass nothing crazy that why i went with a single 10" sub. here are the 2 amps and their specs.
rockford fosgate punch 500 x 1 watts RMS into 4 ohms. 1000 x 1 RMS into 2 ohms.
mtx thunder 600XD mono amp. 600 RMS class D. 1200 watts max peaks.

Whats the ohm on the L5. I See the 10" L5 are 450 RMS correct..
The Rockford Fosgate is a much better amp. The RF will produce more power anyway. Most RF amps are way underrated for RMS. The MTX is overrated for RMS.

I'm not sure about the rms for the kicker
But its already in the box. I couldn't pass up for the price got it from co worker for $60. The mtx was brand new still. In a box got it from local club member for $60 also. RF is the older model amp trade that for my old Fbody calipers. Well guess RF is what going power up the sub. Thank you guys

The determining factor is going to be the impedance of the sub. How many coils does it have and what ohm rating are they? If it has two coils it will have two sets of speaker terminals.
As for one amp realistically putting out more than the other, unless they've been bench tested it's all heresay and generalization. There are MTX amps out there that do well over rated power, some not so much, same with Fosgate. What I would do if I were you is first lets find out the impedance of your sub to see if either amp would work out for ya, then if that pans out you can connect both amps (one at a time of course) and see which one you think gives you the best output/sound.

Your sub is either dual 2 or dual 4 so the impedance will be the determining factor because....
If your sub is dual 2, you can wire it to either a 1 ohm load or 4 ohm load, it doesn't look like either of those amps are 1 ohm stable so in this case you'd be stuck going the 4 ohm route. Your sub is rated at 450rms. The MTX will do 325rms @ 4 ohms while the Fosgate will do 500rms @ 4 ohms. In that case, it's a no brainer to go with the Fosgate.
If your sub is dual 4, you can wire it to either a 2 ohm load or 8 ohm load, but nobody wants an 8 ohm load so it would realistically be 2 ohms as your only choice. Your sub is rated at 450rms. The MTX will do 600rms @ 2 ohms while the Fosgate will do 1000rms @ 2 ohms. In that case it's a no brainer to go with the MTX.
Now if there's any chance at all of you upgrading your subs anytime soon I would suggest you go with the Fosgate because it'll give you more flexibility as far as power rating for your subs. Just make sure that whatever sub or subs you get can be wired to the proper ohm load to get the right amount of power from the amp.
