Gutted Airbox

I cant tell from the picture, but it sounds like you pretty much made this?
K&N 57-3045 $293.99 - 57 Series FIPK, Air Intake / Cold Air Intake
Im thinking about buying one, just because the install looks sweet, and i cant wait to hear the sc whining more!
But about the hp gain, the dyno isnt so bad! its on a grand prix, but the results should be the same.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I still have my old airbox, I'll cut it up and take pictures along the way to show you how its done. As far as the MPG issue i have a huge improvement now that I've gotten used to it, I used to get about 27-28MPG highway, and now I'm getting about 32MPG, not a big jump, but when nearly all my driving is highway its pretty nice. Before I gutted the intake the DIC would usually say I could make it about 350 miles on a full tank, now it reads 500... Great way to start the day lol.

I saw Chibi's K&N CAI first hand. Bad design. Mogwog is right, it lacks proper heat shielding (not just is it a think piece of painted steel, but where the snorkel comes through to connect with the filter is a HUGE open hole, lots of space for heat to move through). And lastly, no heat shielding on the top. I suspect you could insulate it yourself to make some improvements to K&N's design.
