Well, i guess i'll be running it the way it is now to get my moneys worth out of it, and when it begins cracking, i'll get some metal tubing instead.

Zjerry, how did you fit yours behind the headlight? (if im correct in assuming that's where it's going lol) and did you get the metal tubing from ebay?

It's behind the headlight the tube I bought off ebay made it point at headlight so I added an extra piece from autozone to it..

Ahhh I see. Very nice looking engine bay, btw. I like having it all the way down in the fender. Hopefully I can find metal tubing that is identical to the plastic I have now once it's time for replacing.

The only suggestion I have is when you install the IAT sensor you want it in the same location as it was in the stock duct hose. Otherwise it will alter the air/fuel mixture with the possibility of negative results.

not entirely true. the only thing the IAT directly affects is timing. as iat increases timing is pulled and as temp goes down it adds timing. there is a large window where no changes are made. so the bottom line is as long as the iat is in the air stream the effects will be minimal if any at all. considering that the metal tubing will conduct heat faster then the stock rubber i would install the iat closer to the filter and further from the hot engine bay.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I must respectfully disagree with you. Air temp is one of the variables that the PCM uses to adjust injector pulse. Placing the IAT closer to the filter would be counter-productive. The air passing through it would be colder than the air that is actually entering the engine. The PCM would increase injector pulse duration to richen up the mixture. Since the air entering the engine isn't as dense this would create a rich condition. The result would be reduced performance, a decrease in mpg, oil dilution and promote carbon build up.

this has nothing to do with opinions. I am talking about facts. Show me a table the pcm uses that relates IAT to AF. to calculate IPW the pcm uses maf and map in addition to the narrow band O2. the IAT helps to add or remove timing. if the IAT had a direct effect on AF people would have used the happy **** mod more for AF corrections.

as from the actual tables there is about a 80 degree window where IAT temp change does absolutely nothing. at high temp or low temps it will add or remove timing. if you were to try and keep the IAT in a stock location with a metal tube vs the rubber the sensor will show a higher temp reading. so moving the iat closer to the filter will help to restore closer to normal IAT readings. but light said the variation is negligible.

I have the IAT pretty close to the stock position, I think. Also, I haven't noticed any negative effects due to the placement of the sensor. Actually, my mpg's have improved, my idle rpm has decreased as well as crusing rpm. Idk if all that has any to do with the IAT positioning or if they are results of the intake itself, but nonetheless, I am pleased with the results.
