I doubt you will have enough room to run two exhaust pipes under the car first off and if you to I doubt it would be much louder if you install a muffler on that side too.

Why not install an exhaust like the 3800? (Y pipe at the rear of car just past gas tank to make dual exit exhaust)

A cutout off the downpipe is super loud. That's how I have mine and I love it though. It's so loud I close it when I see a cop so I don't get pulled over haha.

Yeah, I could just do dual exhaust like you said. What I'm afraid of is if I don't have anything on the cutout, it will sound awful-I'm not sure what the tone from a 3400 sounds like with nothing behind the downpipe. Loud is what I want, not all of the time, but just sometimes when I want to make an impression. For normal driving, I'd just leave it like it is now.

im not sure how it would sound on a 3400. i know on a 3800 unless they have a turbo strapped to them i think they sound bad open downpipe personally.

that's why I was thinking of a different muffler, or something, just to make it sound better. I'm sure I could get something much louder than my current magnaflow-I love the tone but it's not loud at all. Anyway, thanks for the feedback

These would be purely for fun, as I have a mostly stock 3400 engine and I'm sure I'd get no performance gain from having them open. Does that sound ridiculous?
I think there is an easier way to do this. Rather than putting a cutout up front and running all that extra tubing (which will be difficult to fit as you'd have to redo the stock exhaust path too to have any hope of tucking them both in the same tunnel), I think your better option would be to do all the plumbing out back.

What I mean is that you delete your resonator (and cat if desired), and basically turn your stock exhaust into straight pipe, similar to what you wanted to do with the cutout.

Then you could install a y pipe in the back, and put a cutout on one branch of the y. On the 'always open' branch, weld back in a resonator, and a muffler. The cutout branch could just go straight to a tip without any muffler if desired. This would give you the same sound you wanted, but with a lot less weight and a lot less fab work.

I think it would be easier to put your 'always open' branch on the drivers side so you have more space to add your resonator and muffler, and your cutout branch would just be a fairly short piece of pipe after the y to the back of the car.

That sounds really good-much better idea than I originally thought. That sounds like it could get expensive but would be a lot of fun to have...

X2

My Monte with the turbo setup made about 30 more whp with the exhaust cutout open on the dyno.
