IMO a dual kit isn't needed on these cars since they're single exhaust. The dual kits are really needed for cars with true dual exhaust, however we only have a single pipe running down the car.

If you want to mount the cutout that far back in the exhaust stream (by the mufflers), id just have the shop cut off the current y split (if you have two mufflers) and make a new one that has two muffler outlets, and a third outlet for your cutout. Typically though, people tend to want to mount it further upstream. The less bends the exhaust has to go through before exiting, the better the flow - and the fewer components it has to go through (cat, resonator, muffler), the louder it is.

Original post states he has an 86 ss with a 350. The cutout in my buick is right after the cat. Was not really any room further upstream. Generally cutouts are as close to the engine as possible.

Oh okay thanks must have slipped right by my tired old eyes. I agree keep them up snug as close as possible to the back of the engine.

Hey guys. Yes I have a 350 under the and true dual exhaust flowmaster 44s
Any way thanks for all the help. I was able to hang out by the shop today and discuss exactly how I wanted them. Everything is working great. With them open the car had a nastier growl.

Just wanted to know if it is safe to open them while driving or should I be stopped

Whether you are stopped or moving it is safe to open/close them. There is no pressure on them if the car is off, obviously.
Well, I probably would not open them and then romp on it near a police officer. Might not be too safe for your wallet when he wants to issue a citation for being too loud...LOL

Hey guys.

Well I have had thrm put on my car. There was really no room underneath except for right after the headers to install them . I was thinking of returning them and getting the low profile ones but decided to keep the y pipe. They sound great at and idle. The car is very loud with them open. No way anyone can drive around like this. But it is fun to open them up at a red light. I don't know if I am right but I think I noticed less bsckpressure on the car even when they are closed.

How are you determining the amount of backpressure present?

Pressure in the exhaust system will definitely be higher when they're closed (assuming the engine is on). The exhaust has to go through more bends and the mufflers before it is able to exit. These restrictions to flow equate higher presure in the exhaust system vs having the cutouts open.
