Default Cold air question !

Okay guys so im looking for more sound for my 07 SS, and a good intake is where i will probably start but i have a couple of questions after mind boggling on the net. First...

1- Will replacing the stock air box and adding a bigger filter really do so much?

2 - Im cheap and low on money, I know a box is prefered, but is it needed. Granted these engines get hot as...well you know.

3- Whats a good place to start? My buddy has his filter without a box for now in his 07 GXP bonnivile with his 4.6 and it sounds beastly.

4- If i were to build a box, what materials would I use? Or should i just have mike help me make one? ( lol hoping mike sees this as usual)

Or is there anything else I could do for a bit more sound and gain, I prefer MPG vs HP since I have enough HP, granted its a performance car.Sounds backwards I know but lol.

Any help would be needed, and thanks guys

If you're serious, shell out the money for a good intake. If you don't have a box then you just have a hot air intake. The whole.point of the intake is to increase flow and get colder denser air from outside the engine compartment.

Thats what I would assume, so I kinda looked at my dummy friend like uhhh isnt it just sucking up hot air? O.o;....Whats a good material to make a box out of? I see people using sheet metal but again, dummy said it holds too much heat? And do you have any estimate the cost of building one? I might just buy one of bills and stop being cheap, im just curious.

And thanks for your advice.

Interesting...maybe i should just buy one. I was wondering about the mechanics of how it helps and the sound gain.

The colder denser air helps give the engine more power and often times a cai flows much better too. Sound wise, i would say its louder since the intake is more open and flowing. On my car i now hear the supercharger where with the stock setup i couldn't.

get one from cold air inductions then get a highflow downpipe. it will change the sound. also do a res. delete. I did all of this and I like the sound my monte produces.

dont waste your money on a cold air intake. sound wise its hard to tell a difference from stock. performance wise for the price of either of the 2 big name cai you could get an ls1 intake and most of the needed parts to make it work. i would take the 30-40hp jump of the ls1/6 intake&tune over the 10 of the intake&tune any day. this is unless you build one for cheap or buy one used for a reasonable price.

I was going to build one for cheap, I started testing around with one, without a box. Got my CPU and all out, ughhhhh. I ran outta time yesterday to take measurements to build a heat cover or something, but anyway, I added a spector filter to the connection, removing the old bulky box. But now, my service traction light would pop on and off sometimes. This morning stayed on for maybe 3-5 mins. Car as a tiny bit of jerk, but depends on how I lay my foot down. Could this be due to the CPU kind of expose temporarly or what?

And do we have a exhaust breather tube? For the small filter?
