I have just recently purchased and installed a new Weapon-R Secret Weapon air intake on my '97 Monte Z34 and am still currently in the process of figuring out if it is the best option for my vehicle. It definitely adds some horses to the overall output and seems to give me a slight gas mileage boost if I don't rag on the throttle too much. However it does heat up the engine more quickly than the factory intake system, most likely from the way the ram air system works but I'm constantly worrying about the possibility that I didn't install it correctly. I followed the directions pretty much to the crosses on the t's and the dots on the i's. Any comments or suggestions?

 

Not sure anyone hear uses those. THey are usually seen as cheap eBay kits that don't add value. They don't shield the incoming air from the heat of the engine, so as your engine heats up, it's getting heat soaked. Hence it's really a HAI not a CAI (hot vs cold).

If there is a way you can fabricate a insulated box or shield for it would be a good start.

 

All you did was make your throttle feel peppier and since hotter air isn't as dense, the car doesn't need to throw as much fuel at it.

Performance wise, it is worse. Every 10 degrees the car has to pull some HP.

So if the stock airbox is pulling in ambient air, and this HAI is pulling in almost 100degree hotter air... you are losing almost 10-15HP

Thanks for the heads up guys. I'm about to reinstall the stock air intake box. Just have to first buy some fuel injection cleaner because of taking in enough water on flooded streets to make my engine a rolling swimming pool! Definitely not fun. Thanks again for the info, least now I know how the system REALLY works
