Question 3" Piping

So i have an 04 ss s/c. Current set up is k&n cai, speed daddy headers, 180 tstat, colders plugs n stock wires. Recently deleted my res and re did the rest of my piping. I went from stock to 3" piping. Left stock mufflers and im gonna change those too this weekend. Magnaflow? Flowmaster? Still not sure but my car is not as loud as i thought it would be wit the new 3 inch piping and headers. Its actually quieter than stock...any ideas why? Any advice n opinions welcomed. Thanks!

Did you buy the mufflers already? I go straight pipe. Great sound. I'm deleting the resonator and most likely the U-bend in my 04 SS SC. I don't have headers and I really don't think I need them. Car sounds awesome. So I figure yours should sound T%TS when your done. If you have not bought the mufflers. I wouldn't.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>

Glasspacks sound horrible on 3800s.

I got glasspacks on my 70 dart 340 sounds sweet. after awhile the glass gets blown out and you are basicaly running straight pipes but it is enough to get through inspections.

A 340 and a 3.8 are two whole different engines. Of course glasspacks sound good on a v8. It gets nasty and raspy on our cars though.

Ignore all this straight piping, no muffler nonsense. Its loud, raspy and sounds like your exhaust is broke.

The best sound I have found on any 3800 is Headers to no cat, a glasspack in place of the resonator and stock mufflers.

Other than that, if you want to spend a few hundred for Borla mufflers, do that. They are the best alternative to stock I have found yet.

Your wrong but in this country you have that right. I along with MANY MANY others really like the sound of straight pipes. If you can’t handle the noise, get out of the men’s room.<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75" coordsize="21600,21600"> </v:shapetype><v:shape style="WIDTH: 12pt; HEIGHT: 12pt" id=_x0000_i1025 type="#_x0000_t75" alt="0"><v:imagedata o:href="https://montecarloforum.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif" src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\BBLACK~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\cli p_image001.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape> I love it loud. My 69 Chevelle was very loud. I loved it then too. Every where I know of, the cat is a necessary part of the exhaust to be with in the laws limits.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
Your way off on the raspy sound. No rice here. I’ll stick with my straight pipes.<o:p></o:p>

Some times I feel people defend themselves when there is no need too. You feel you spent too much money. Now you have to justify it. I'm not saying. I'm just saying.<o:p></o:p>
