Best Aftermarket Intake Manifold for a 2000 SS
Hey all! First off I am new here, and I've owned my 2000 SS Monte Carlo for one week. I've already had a rear wheel bearing replaced and I'm in the market for a new intake manifold.
I have found two types. Fiber glass reinforced and aluminum reinforced. Which one is better?
The car is leaking oil around the intake gasket and has a bit of a rough idle. Other than that the car is in very good condition. I have a stack of service records that came with it, plus the sticker from the dealer when it was brand-spanking new. I am the third owner.
Parking pawl is a little worn, but setting the parking brake seems to work just fine.
144,000 miles, got it for 3200.00 out the door. So far it is looking like a steal.
Is there an aftermarket intake that anyone could recommend?
Thanks!
Audrey

Welcome to the site, looks like you got a good deal on monte....Manifold Which one is better? IDK ....leaking oil around the intake gasket .,Maybe just change gasket?
Welcome and congrats on the 2000 SS, they are a great year
Are you confident in doing all of the engine work yourself? If so it would be beneficial to do a tear-down and replace a lot of the gaskets. If you are tearing down to the UIM gasket, might as well do the valve covers and LIM gasket at the same time.
Also this Upper Intake insert is a fun idea. http://zzperformance.com/grand_prix/...=214&catid=113

More of a preventative maintenance type of thing. I was in the market for a car for around 4500.00, so I feel like I can replace potential trouble spots now and maybe not have to be hoofing it later down the road. I've read the factory intakes are bad about cracking/blowing. We will have to take the manifold off to install a gasket, so might as well replace it while the money is handy. From what I've seen it isn't that bad cost-wise if you can do it yourself. Thanks!!
Pretty confident!!
My hubby is very good with cars.
Soon as the new wheels come in I'll post some pictures. I feel that I got a heck of a deal and am pretty proud of it. I was wanting a 3800 engine, and was looking at Impalas, Montes seemed to be a bit out of my price range, so I jumped on this one. Beautiful cars, and I love the way it handles.

If you are really doing preventative maintenance, and your husband is really good with cars, I highly highly recommend valve covers and LIM gasket also. Those are very common for failing
Alright, thanks! At nearly 150,000 miles it couldn't hurt a thing.
