When I bought mine from CAI a few years ago and talked to Bill he said the one I had wasn't designed for the 3.5. I just got the filter and box with my kit nothing else.
Did you guys replace your MAF with one without the ears on it?
I have had my CAI in the box since I tried to initially put it on,
Thanks for your responses

All you need is the box and filter. You use the stock hose and MAF (yes it has ears on it). Pull the hose toward the filter and put the MAF directly into the mouth of the filter. It will be stretched out and the MAF lip has about 1/2 inch that goes into the filter. Tighten the crap out of the hose clamp and you will have a CAI. It's very easy to install.

Hopefully this helps, because we do not sell a kit directly for the 3.5L, feel free to chime in if anything I am saying is incorrect.
Thank you for your interest in our CAI for your Monte Carlo. Although we do not offer a direct bolt-on for the 3.5L system, many customer have successfully installed our 3.9L CAI without any problems, you just need to buy a MAF sensor to place between the filter and intake tube. On the 3.5L your MAF housing is molded right into your airbox, so when you eliminate that airbox you also eliminate your MAF, and therefore would have to purchase a MAF and install it. Since our units are sold as 100% bolt on and require no further modifications, we do not advertise the 3.5L system due to the fact that you have to supply and install your own MAF housing. Hopefully that makes sense, if not feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
Here is the link to the 3.9 system on our website: http://www.coldairinductions.com/store/cold-air-intakes/chevrolet/monte-carlo/v6-3-9l/2006?___SID=U
