Default 06-07 CAI kits,.. opinions...

We have had our06 SS for a few weeks now and the performance monster in me has leaked over intoit. It has 40 series Flows on it so I think CAI is next. Have looked at K&N, Wizaired and CAI. To me the CAI brandseems to be the winner. Anyone that wants to kick in their opinions... please do! I want to buy what is best for performance notfor looks. What I like about CAI's is that it is sealed and lined to block out the heat. The K&N is too open. It would prolly run worse with it due to all the heat under the hood. The Wizaired is nice but I'm not sure if they offer a top to block it off thus fab work involved in an already expensive part. Opinions anyone?????? here's CAI's link if you haven't seen it...

Question, Will a CAI Intake work with a 3.9 liter engine, is it not too much different from the V8 application, If anybody knows how a CAI can work with a 3.9 liter, Please post it... I agree with you intake choice, I emailed MPD to see if their intake will work with a 3.9 liter engine, They havn't responded but when I find out I will let all the 3.9 liter People know if it will work or not, The intake sells for 285.99 At the MPD SITE

I bought the k&n CAI for my 07 monte ss and i like it so far no problems it makes the car allot louder and a little notice in acceleration gain, it says 14 hp gain but it is fairly open under the hood is the only downside other than that its awesome

I'd say build your own if you want the best performance from an intake. You can locate it pretty much anywhere you want (fender well, infront of the radiator maybe, i haven't checked the engine of my moms monte that well though), use any size K&N filter, choose any pipe size you want, etc, etc. Do a search, tons of guys including myself have made a custom CAI and have all been satisified with the results and the price tag.

I talked to the guy at MPD about there CAI. He said that it well fit in for the 3.9 for the most part. All that is need it an adapter piece from the box/filter to the MAF. So sounds pretty simple to me. Has anyone used there intake. How much does it help, also how does it sound?

I like my K&N. I think if K&N thought the design should have been different, they would have made it different. They seem to test things pretty well. I'm VERY happy with the resulting power and sound. I may try a lexan cover to see if it makes any difference, though.
FullMonte, love your cars, do you have any more pics of the Nascar edition?

I have the K&N kit. As far as performance go the K&N is better than the CAI. You can make your own cover for the K&N. Mine is still open as I have not had time yet to fabricate a box for it.
As others have said it changes the exaust sound.
Here is a link to another board,a member there had both and gives a review.

The K&N seals itself to the hood so their really isn't much heat soak, but it costs a fortune. I'm not sure if the Wizaired is compatible, but it is the best performance CAI on the market but it does look ugly as hell. I haven't seen the one 06MCLTZput up on an earlier post but it looks pretty good and would do the job.
