6th Gen ('00-'05): V8 Swap
Hello there! New to this and I really need some help!! I have a friend who works at the wrecking yard and saved this 06 impala SS the engine and transmission. My question is, what exactly do I need from the donor car?? Pls help!
Just buy the whole car. Even if they charge you some kind of markup over what they paid, I can't imagine the whole thing would be more than maybe $1000- 1500.
Last thing you want to do is miss some bolts, a bracket, module, harness, etc as thatll nickle and dime you to death trying to find and buy after the fact. Having the whole car until you're done with the swap ensures you have every single piece to get yours running and driving.
If there are some good parts left, you could also make some of your money back selling pieces you won't use.
I've not personally done the swap, but it seems like people swapping in these newer engines are bringing over the bcm and some of the related interior pieces (like gauges). I'm not sure if thats absolutely necessary as I've not studied the wiring diagrams, but if it is - you'll be happy you had the whole car to pull from as needed.

Brandon Furches (aka LS4 King) has put some LS4's in the 2000-2005 Monte. I recall him making a statement that he had to swap a throttle body and use a PCM from a Chevy Express Cargo van. This allowed it to run as a cable driven throttle body, the PCM was so he could both tune it AND it communicated with everything else in the car (existing cluster and BCM). But as Bumpin' said, best off getting the entire car and you can make your choices from there.
