i guess if you got have all sorts of money coming out the wazoo you can afford to put gm parts on and keep putting them on every year or two...personally i'll spend a little less and get a better part with a better warranty

the funniest thing i ever had was when my ex gfs mom came in and she said they did a bunch of work on her blazer...she's a gm employee @ the huge warehouse here in woodstock, so they give her employee cost...
so she came in and thought she'd check prices after they did the work....and we could have sold it to her cheaper with our wholesale discount then she got with her employee discount....

That may be true RJ but I did recently restore an 86 cutlass and purchased all OEM GM parts for it. Never used an aftermarket part on it. It fetched a higher price time for resale too because that's the first thing the buyer asked me.....did you restore with all OEM GM. It's just my .02 worth really. I don't like or trust alot of aftermarket stuff. Sure it may be just as good or better but until they can prove it I'll stay with my OEM parts.
I guess you could call what I do restoration? I work on '57 Chevies. I own my own personal Fleet of '57 Chevies. Something I've been "into" since I was 12 in 1970. Got my very first car July, 1972 that I still own today.
How many OE parts do you think are still available for one from the dealer? Sure you see a lot of parts on ebay with the seller claiming the parts are NOS (New Old Stock) when in actuallity these parts are NORS (New Old Replacement Stock).
These parts were contracted by GMto make for dealers to have on their shelves if needed and more likely then not made by someone other then the original supplier.
So when these ebay sellers are claiming NOS parts they are really ripping off any buyers as these are NOT .... NOS parts for a '57 Chevy.
Sure even buying NORS parts vs repo can be better as some repo parts just plain suck as far as fitment or quality goes.
My $0.02 on NOS parts. As long as they're kept in the package they're still NOS. Once you tighten down the bolt to hold that part on it's not NOS anymore. It good quality USED parts. Like the guys who claim, "Yeah my '57 convertible was build using only NOS parts."
That's nice and all they have extra spending cash to build they car that way. Does it make their car worth more X number of times above any one of mine? Well, it's debateable.
Buying a car built with OE or NOS parts is a personal choice just like thee year/type/style of a car you want to buy. There are some beautiful cars out there built with repo parts. And the trend as far as collector cars is going right now it's resto-rod (or hot rod) over stock/original.
People want the hot rods vs the museum pieces so they can drive the pants off them.
To me, I build my cars to me please. No one else. If someone doesn't like how I did something or the direction I went they can keep walking. There's more cars setting nearby to pick apart.

Took the wife's car into a friend's shop. I will never take a car out of GM warranty back to the dealer again. Even got a free hand car wash on the vehicle. Wix fuel filter instead of AC Delco. If its good enough for NASCAR then its good enough for me. No grease or scuff marks on the door either. I think dealer mechanics do that on purpose. Dumped the Dexacool as well.

I work for a company that makes both original equipment and aftermarket parts. There is a difference between the two...the address we put on the box. I'm sure this is the case for a surprisingly large number of parts we buy.
