Odds are for most dealers for things such as brakes and exhaust are sublet out to local Midas and CarX shops. I know of when dealer that does this. The best is when my wife had Cruise added at delivery if it was going to be OEM/Factory components. Guess what? It was sublet out and not OEM. If that was the case then I would have not gotten it. When it was added on my Beretta it was OEM. Some Dealers do cheap work and charge an arm and a leg andcan lack pride in their work.

The only thing my dealer sublets (the same one I worked for) is body work. No body shop there and they send that to a Pontiac dealer with a body shop. of course the Pontiac dealer might sublet it.

exhaust is a pretty common thing to have subletted out...its cheaper now to send it to an exhaust shop that can custom do it and everything..and way faster...a lot of shops in my town do that..

The only things that are not covered under the warranty plan I got are
Tire
Brakes
Oil changes

Everything else is covered for the next 7 years with no cost out of my pocket
NOT EVEN FOR THE RENTAL CAR......
AND THAT IS COVERED NO MATTER WHAT DEALER I TAKE IT TO
I've read my GM warranty and I only get $31 a day for a rental car. Do you get more?

According to my paper work that I have here,
If the repairs are going to take longer then 2 hours (according to the repair time guide) I get a rental free of charge.

A dealership subbing out brakes? I doubt it, that's a big money maker for them as well as the techs.

That's just sad. Dealerships couldn't get away with that crap with my grandfather. He knows his stuff. Way before I was born, he took his 69 Impala in to have it worked on at a dealership. I forget what was wrong, but the mechanic came over and said that it was going to cost extra because "well your car has air conditioning." My grandpa walked out to the garage, opened the hood, pointed and said "what the hell does the air conditioning have to do with anything?" The manager came over, looked at the engine and then at the mechanic saying "I have to agree with Mr. Andersen on this." The mechanic was just trying to get some extra money out of him. The A/C wasn't even in the way of the problem.

My mom, when she owned her 94 Achieva (she's got an 07 Monte LS now, hehe), took her car to Sears for an alignment. About a month prior she took her car to Brake King to have new brakes installed. The mechanic at the desk tried telling her that her brakes were shot and that she should think about getting a new set. She looked right at him and said "I don't think so. They're brand new brakes. I had them put on about a month ago." While this wasn't a dealership, they tried to take her and failed, lol.

I was taken once and believe me I've learned my lesson and won't let anybody other than myself work on my car again unless absolutely necessary. I took my 76 Monte to the Chevy dealership, where it was purchased by my grandfather in 1978, to have the transmission flushed. After it was all done I paid and started home. Well, I started smelling something burning and looked in my mirror. I was burning transmission fluid. I turned around and went back to the dealership and told them the problem. Their response was "well when we do a flush we don't touch the pan. If we touched the pan we'd fix the problem, but we didn't." What the hell's the point on getting a flush if they aren't going to replace the filter OR pan gasket? Worst $95 I ever spent. I ended up going home (losing almost all my fluid on the way), buying several quarts of ATF, gasket and filter and doing it myself. So I probably spend a grand total of $140 just for that non-sense. NEVER get your tranny flushed. Waste of time and money. Just do a regular change. The only time I'll go to the dealership is if I need a part that nobody else carries OR to buy a car (that's gonna be a long time, lol).

Same dealership wanted to charge me $1200 to replace the rear main seal on my old engine. Instead they offered a Goodwrench replacement for $1400 plus labor to install it. I told the mechanic that I was going to get a 350-horse crate engine for it and he said "well that car's too heavy to go fast. you'd be better off just getting a factory replacement." My car's making about 330-horses at the crank and I'm pulling mid-14's... Hmm... Maybe I should go back and show him my timeslips to prove him wrong, lol.

My non-dealer service center gives me a free loaner for all non-warranty work and is cheaper than the dealer.
