No power please help

Default No power please help

My 2001 monte carlo ss 3,8 I can't get it to rev up it wants to bog down on me when i try and rev it up it has been getting worse can't even drive it any more no power anymore i change MAF sensor didn't help

Does it have a factory cat??? The 2000 and 2001 Montes got a bad batch of cats from GM (GM extended the warranty, but it's been expired for a while now). If it's still the factory cat, I would definitely start there and have that looked at.

you can remove the 02 sensor from the cat near the engine and see if the power comes back, if it does, then bad cat.

Yes, it's pretty obvious, you have a clogged catalytic convertor.

thanks for the advice.i was thinking maybe it was the catalytic converter myself.i have orderd a new magnaflow direct fit converter.anybody have any tips or tricks on removing the old converter?

Soak the bolts with PB Blaster the night before, and again a couple of hours prior to doing the job. Clean any residual debris from the exhaust manifold and resonator flanges to prevent leaks. It is easier to remove the O2 sensor once the downpipe is removed rather then trying to remove it still on car. Reinstall in new downpipe prior to installing it on car. Optional - Replace the original bolts with stainless steel.

it was a clogged cat.runs perfect nowso glad that i found this site.thanks again for all the help
