Default fuel gauge wonky

my fuel gauge doesnt work. It sticks at FULL and every once in a blue moon itll move around then shoot back to FULL...and i most certainly dont have that much gas in. Luckily though the low gas light still comes on to warn me.

I assume id have to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel pump or something on it to fix this issue right?

It's called the fuel level sensor and there is an easy access door in the trunk. Not a bad job.

Very easy if you have an access hatch...

The lever is either sticking at full or the fuel tank level sensor took a dump.

I would have to believe that the level sensor is faulty.

If you can give me your vin I could get you the GM part number

Remind me later and I can try to look it up in my shop books... but alldata would probably have the same info.

Alright SES is telling me i need a fuel level sensor now, so thats definitely the problem but that means i have to replace it to pass inspection.

Now you guys say trap door...i remembr with my camaro you had to cut out a square, or is there an actual trap door already there?

The REAL problem is the gas level sensor is dirty/corroded, I'm assuming. I've had that happen. Where are you buying your gas? I switched to top tier gas and the problem went away. Never did change the level sensor out. Haven't bought junk gas since!
