what about for the winter since i dont have a garage to keep it in?

Mine was only garaged for 4 years. Just wash it / hose it off underneath etc at least once a week.

Regardless of the condition of the fuel lines (rusty or not), spray that fitting GOOD with your favorite penetrating oil (like PB Blaster).

Also, I'm told after you put the new one on, cover the exterior of the fitting in grease (like bearing grease). It will protect it from the elements and getting rusted up in the future.
