I am posting for my brother he bought his 1999 monte carlo z34 back in 2001 as a lease return. I believe since then he has only put on 20,000 miles, he lives about 4 miles from his job. Now he has only 49,000 miles on his monte carlo.


I was wondering what kind of maintenance is suggested in the upcoming miles. I drive a saab and at certain mileage intervals (30000,60000, and every 30000 miles) certain parts are supposed to be replaced. Is there anything like that for monte carlos? What do you guys recommend? He just payed off his car and would like it to last while yet. So far all he had to get replaced was the alternator and tires and brakes. But that was about it.

 

I'm not sure if GM has a recommended maintenance program, but if they did it would likely be in the owner's manual. When I reached 50,000 miles, I changed my oil, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter, trans filter, flushed the coolant and brake fluid and replaced the spark plugs. 5,000 miles later a plug wire went bad and I wound up doing a set of wires. But, I also did it myself with discounted parts and free ATF, oil and brake fluid. I would recommend changing the spark plugs and checking the rest of the car over. Check the fluids, air filter, serpentine belt. It probably doesn't need a fuel filter, but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to replace it. The trans filter and brake fluid probably doesn't need to be replaced either.

 

I would add a serpentine belt and fuel filter(s) in that maintainence plan.
