exhaust rusting
They make all kinds of high temp automotive paints. Also,if you live in an area where wood and coal stoves are common, they sell a paint called "stove black" which can withstand the extreme heat of a stove, which can be a lot hotter than a car exhaust at the rear.
I had a stainless steel exhaust on one of my cars and after 1 winter it was totally rusted WTF? I bought a non stainless steel Dynomax exhaust system but painted it with exhaust high heat paint and it held up quite well, it's only rusting at the welds.

Solara they are not true aluminum but only aluminized.....meaning the aluminum is extremely thin and therefore will chip off or peel first then the mufflers steel will be exposed and start rusting.
Have you ever followed behind a car with a muffler that was painted black but the paint is peeling off? Same principle.
