86 monte really that slow?
Hahah **** monte carlos not enough horse power to much for new engine so i bought a 86 ford F-150 with 302 190 horse power so i guess i changed my mind from chev to ford. That kinda pissed me off when i fouund out that it only puts out 150 horse power cause i wasnted to race thows little idiots with there honda civic POS with there megaphones for exhaust and teach em whos boss. but thanks anyways i guess i shoulda found out cause if i woulda raced one and lost i would be really embassed anyway im still gona keep my montes i have a 74 and an 84 the 74 has a 350 but it needs a lot of work so thanks.

When my 76 Monte had the stock 145-horse 350 2bbl, stock Turbo 350, stock 2 1/4-inch single exhaust and stock open 2.73 rear end I could take on some of those rice burners w/ no problem. Of course, that was about the first couple of years I owned my car and I was stupid and street raced a couple times. I once had two passengers and myself in my Monte and raced a rice rocket and beat him. I was probably doing close to 90. I've kept it strictly on the track now, where racing should always be kept. The motor might not have had a lot of horsepower, BUT had 250 foot pounds of torque.
I've since done an engine swap, tranny rebuild, dual 2 1/2-inch exhaust w/ Flowmasters, recently cut off both my cats (damn things melted down on me) and had an Eaton posi w/ 3.73's put in. I've been able to pull off a 14.945 @ 89.91. Traction is an issue, but everytime I've gone to the track I've gotten a little quicker each time. And that's not doing any tinkering with it prior to racing. If I could get the tires to hook I'd probably be able to pull off a mid-14. I am planning on a cam and lifter swap in the very near future so I'll probably nail low 14's (if I'm lucky high 13's).
