Post Steering whine

my 03 Monte 3.8 doesn't like corners. at least the power steering belt tells me so. whenever i hit even a moderate corner with moderate acceleration while im turning, the steering emits a nasty sounding whine that tends to linger for a few miles afterwards. does anyone know why it does this and if its bad?

Mine had done that for years, and after a few mechanics told me the power steering was fine and these cars are naturally noisy i checked it myself. Power steering fluid was almost empty so i filled it up then left the cap off, started up the car and turned it all the way to the left, then all the way to the right. Repeated that about 12 times. Slapped the power steering cap back on and its been quiet ever since.

Check the steering rack for leaks and see if your power steering fluid is low. If you top it off and later on the whine comes back then there's a leak somewhere.

well turning the wheel with the reservoir open just helps get any air bubbles out, im not 100% sure but i think thats how they do it in most shops
