Default Whine

So why is it that 99% of newer cars make that horrible whining noise when backing up, I never noticed it on my car before, until I let someone else drive it and I watched them drive away. What's the deal?

that whine has been on cars for as long as I can remember, not really too sure why, maybe it's because reverse is only one gear. I dunno.

a really small gear, I might add.

I remember back in the day, I had a pretty big sized Corvette die cast car w/one of those, the more you push, the faster it goes, motors on it......when I'd push it in reverse, it made the same whine, I thought that was so damn cool!

I had that problem once as well, I told my girlfriend at the time to get out and it stopped...

I agree with Rich.... Gearing has alot to do with that sound.
