Engine + Steering whine
Hey Y'all!
New to this forum (well sort of, you helped me out several years back when I had an issue with my '03)
I just developed a whine that is centered around the top portion of the serpentine pulley area. It happens at idle and while driving, increasing its sounds when the RPM increases. When I started the car today, I noticed the power steering is whining as well. It is loudest at startup while cold.
I do not drive the car alot (thankfully). I drive at most 500 mls/month. I do however, have the tendency to forget things like checking levels.
I checked the power steering resevior and it was low, but I have to go get some fluid. However, it makes me nervous that it just may not be the power steering.
Thoughts? suggestions?
Thank you!

If its not the power steering its probably either the alternator or idler pully. My idler pully squeaked for a few months before walking off the bearing and shooting the belt onto the highway at 55 mph.
If you take the belt off and spin everything you might be able to see what is making the noise if it isn't the PS fluid
Did you ever have the recall work done on the PS system??

I would almost bet money its the power steering pump. Its very common on these cars, and if yours is low on fluid, all the more reason to think its that. Add fluid and see if that does anything for you. If not, you'll probably be looking at replacing the power steering pump soon.
