My monte is dead :(
I'd say yes but that'd be a compliment to them. I'd say there were just greedy. and that was just for an engine. He ended up just getting his 3100 rebuilt for about $1,100
Pretty sure everything bolts up to the L26 no problems. The only thing you would need is the adapter for your current TB because the TB on the L26 is computer controlled and you still have the cable.

Thanks man, cant wait to start it up already
if it ever does
looks like my monte will be having an L26 transplant soon then
cant wait to polish up that UIM

Stuff i have to do/replace:
Trans solenoids, new filter and fluid
new plugs and ZZP wires
oil change and filter
coolant elbows
new fluids (coolant, power steering any others?)
gaskets maybe? i read these motors have upgraded gaskets or something like that?
Transfer needed accessories/parts
TB adapter
anything else?

Might I suggest 3 of these (currently on sale):

I bought three of them when I did all my mods in spring of 2011 to protect the paint as I leaned into the car to do my work. As seen below:

You can tuck those blankets into the crevices around the engine compartment to "hold in". I think better then any "fender" bib type thing I've seen. Covers LOTS surface area.
Also add to the list new Fel-Pro aluminum LIM gaskets, a new UIM gasket.... Heck, I'd really consider doing the head gaskets (the replacement motor is out of the car, give it as clean a bill of health as you can). With the heads off, you could easily replace the valve seals too (something I wish I did on the Grand Am, but did not think about).
