Looks like the oil sending unit to me also...
Over my lifetime I have experienced many a sending unit failing just like yours... In the pic you can also see where it hits the block when its leaking under pressure(the clean area) and the oil build up adjacent to it on the hoses...

That should definitely resolve the oil leak thru the sending unit...

Also you have to remember... That unit is with in the galley of the oil pump which is a high pressure area thus leaving the "clean" spot on the block..

I'm glad that we were able to help/remedy that gusher!

To think you were driving around with it like that... How long was it leaking like that? before you were able to fix it? it must have cost you a small fortune in replacement oil for sure....

Sheew, I think I would have rigged some sorta catch can in the mean time!
At least the underside of your Monte is well lubricated...LOL

Ya had to get some 7-11 oil, then I had ma girl bring me a gallon of autozone oil. I drove like tht for around 10 miles. And the engine started to tick. I was scared to death. Dont tick anymore. Crazy thing is I had 500 miles till ma next oil change glad to say dropped ma friend off this morning and still no leaks. This is officially case closed!...and hey mike what's wrong with fram they cool haha

I always found them to be cheaply built.

If you are buying oil filters on a budget, take a look at Purolator ones, they seem to keep a nice metal core.
