Installing Power Steering Pump - any tips??
tackling a ps pump change 2002 ss in the morning.
Saw a couple of real good posts on here, but I am just looking for any pearls of wisdom before I start. any issues or tips?
Do I really have to remove the passenger side tire?
I have the puller/ the pump and some Lucas ps fluid.
thanks everyone

I have not changed a PS pump, but I have changed the high pressure line. To get to the fittings for the lines, I got to them from removing the passenger side wheel. If you had other access to pull the pump elsewhere on the car, it might make a difference, but I am a skeptic.
Are you sure it's the pump that's bad??? I assume you're leaking fluid. If so, it's probably a pine, not the pump.
Also, a day before you start, might not hurt to hit all bolts and fittings with PB Blaster. Might also be worth considering replacing the lines while you are messing with it.

no leaks
It is whiney like it is low on fluid, but the level is spot on /fluid looks okay.
When the car is stopped and you turn the wheel, you get the whine. Also now getting the whine while accelerating , without steering input.
And I might go get the lines while I have it all apart. I am gonna price them real quick.
Thanks for the input.

I'm not aware of a "power steering filter". But your problem sounds like a whining pump in deed.
When you get your belt, might I suggest a Goodyear Gatorback belt?? Supposed to be some of the best belts you can pop on. I bought mine brand new in the sleeve for less then $30 from a guy on eBay (Buy It Now auction).

Thanks everyone for the tips !
New pump is in and purrs like a kitten.
Replaced belt (GB) and went ahead and flushed radiator while I was under the hood.
Took about two hours but went smooth.
Thanks for the input. I am going to post some new pictures to My Garage
