The part youd need to check would be on the transaxle under the brake master. A 9c3 cluster is a digital speedo from a lumina cop car btw a tranny fluid and filter change wouldnt hurt anything, would actually help it

Actually, if the trans has been neglected and never had a fluid/filter change, many people complain of trans failure shortly after doing a fluid/filter change on a neglected high miles trans.

Ive heard this myth before. What happens when people go too long between filter changes is that sludge builds up in the case due to reduced pressure. When you install a new filter, the now high pressure sometimes knock the sludge loose and clog the new filter. All you have to do is install another new filter. Ive never had a transmission fail due to a filter change, and ive serviced a LOT of transmissions.

Like Jason says, its never been proven that a flush kills a tranny, But alot of people complain about it. I think they just neglected their tranny too long and it was already on its way out.
But its always possible so you gotta let people make thier own decision

2003 monte ss ran fine ...Took it out today and stopped at a local convenience store ...Got in put in in reverse ...Backed out ...pulled up to a stop sign and when I went to go ...Nothing ... Like in neutral ... Went through the gears and nothing ... Shut the car off ...Start it up ...Put it in gear and off we go till the next stop sign And that’s how it’s been all day ...Nursed the thing home and now it appears stuck in second gear ...Any ideas ?

When was the last time you changed the fluid? If it's brown it should be red.

Update ...I inquired at a local Trans shop about my issue and was told it was a solenoid issue ....Soooo I purchased a set of solenoids ,dropped the tranny and changed them all out along with the filter and oil of course ( By the way oil was red from the onset and no filings in the pan ) and guess what ?...No change so i totally changed out the trans with one I had from a wreck I bought ....Now I am stuck with a used 360$ set of solenoids ...May just tear down the trans , rebuild it and sell it to recoup my costs
