could be a few things but i would have the valve body checked for stuck valves, or even the shift cable for stretching.??? maybe?

Hi `Josh,
How many miles are on your 3.1 L ?
Has your trans ever been serviced ?
Has fluid & trans filter been changed ? If so, when ?
How high, what RPM do you have to `hit b-4 it kicks in ?
Could be debre clogging trans lines ?

Please post additional infor, so that our expert tech
members can help or give their possible solutions.
Good Luck

sounds like the common problems of the transmission which are torque converter / pressure solenoid, not a cheap fix if i'm right. You are better off probably getting a used transmission from morad or a junk yard and putting it in.
