Have you ever raced you buddy in the G6, or are you asking the question?
Depends on the year of the G6, the old G6 3.5L's did not have VVT, and only made 200 HP (which, depeneding on what your tune/ intake did for you might be a reasonable assumption, that you could keep up with him)...the newer ones with VVT are making I think 221 HP (which I really don't think you could beat).

how much would porting everything and getting a larger throttle body potentially get me?

once again i think the porting is another labor intense situation. if your going to pull the heads and intake have them ported you might be better off just combing pick your own part junkyards for a car with a 3500 in it and take the whole top end of that thing. i think that 3400 is going to hold you back. im no expert in that motor but im going to assume its going to need heads and a cam to make any real power and once youve invested that much time and money you could have gotten a gtp or a monte with the 3.8na or sc and probably make the same power stock. just doesnt seem cost effective. of course im not going to try and talk you out of it. i think its great when people want to be different and work with what they have. just sucks to get sucked into a money pit that doesnt perform and cost you every cent you had.

And a throttle body on its own might get you 1-2 HP, but don't expect to feel anything.

I'm not sure of your exact situation, but the 3400 is not exactly a powerhouse to begin with, so why spend a lot of money on it?
Here's my thought, we like Monte Carlos, so maybe consider selling your current ride and getting a '06 or '07 with a 303 hp V8 would be a better plan. Just a thought....and not meaning to be ugly or anything. At the moment, I enjoy the smooth ride, styling and good mpg from my '04 with the 3400. Maybe later, when I'm not commuting so much, a V8 powered MC is in my future.
