Default 99 MC temperature guage not working

i have a 99 LS 3.1 and noticed that the temperature gauge wasn't working at all. it reads all the way to the left on cold. also i noticed that my fuel gauge is maybe messing up as well. the fuel gauge was on 1/4 the other day, then the next it was 1/2, then it read full. filled the tank and it went back to full so we'll see about that.

my question is really with the temperature gauge. i've done a search on this site and most people with this problem say that the fans continue to run after the car is turned off. i have no fans running after engine shut off so i'm confused as to what the problem would be. i replaced the thermostat about 2 years ago, would it be the t-stat failing? i don't notice that the car is running hotter than normal, but obviously i can't tell what the temp is.

i'm assuming that its the cluster but how do i know for sure? the local garage charged $90/hr for diagnosing so any input on here would be MUCH appreciated.

before anybody asks.....185,000 miles and runs strong

thanks

it could be the cluster, it has a lot of miles on it. god thing for you there are a million cars out there with the same cluter. im sure they dont cost that much.

it also could be your thermostat sticking. my did it the other day and it scared me. it happened on the way to work. then when i left it still did it, i messed withe the fan speed and hot/cold **** for a min and it poped back up to normal.

you should be fine w/o it. unless your car is way overheating, or you need heat. but its summer , so who needs heat anyways.
