Default Benifits of a 3500 top end swap?

Hey guys,

so i know i have a leak somewhere in my head gasket, very tiny leak... anyhow sometime in the next summer i was going to pull it all apart and get it all fixed up... then i cam accross the 3500 top end swap kit on milzy's page... for only 800$...

What are the benifits of this swap? if im gonna do it, should i spend the extra 1400$ or so to get her up to stage two?

or should i just keep my stock components?

I'm really not all that sure, but I would assume the 3500 top end has better "breathing" capabilities. Therefore, you will be getting more power.

its ok you have the nonvvt motor like i have you can get headers for the non vvt type like those heads are nonvvt so the headers will bolt up to them i think. but if they do it will breath more for you after the sawap. i have seen those heads and i dont know if the vvt and non vvt would work on mine because i have the flex fuil set up

Monte07, if you have an 06-07 V6 Monte, you have VVT, both the 3500, and 3900 V6 had VVT, there were no V6's in 06-07 offered without VVT in the Monte. Actually I think the 5.3L has VVT as well.

The older 3400 in the 00-05's as well as the 3800's did not have VVT.

If you're interested in gaining some power, then by all means do it. However, (and this is just my opinion), for $800 or less you can get an whole 3500 from a yard. Why not attempt to swap the whole darn thing in then? You'll likely need the external crank trigger and throttle body adapter (to bypass the drive-by-wire 3500 setup and use your existing throttle linkage) from Ben at 60degreeV6.com, and figure out how to mount it. It should bolt right up to the tranny, though. At that point, worry about a cam, headers, etc. later and enjoy the added displacement. Just a thought.

Maybe you should just swap a 3500 into your 02 Monte LS!
