Default 3400 v.s. 3800

What are the differences between the 3400 and the 3800? Friend of mine says just the heads what else is different between the 2. I have an 02 LS with the 3400 and there are very few mods available for it from what I have found so far. Maybe I am looking in the wrong areas since I'm used to my last car a TT Trans Am but any help would be appreciated. I just got my LS literally not even 2 weeks ago. so very new to the Montes please any help would be completely appreciated.

EVERYTHING is different. There isnt one shared component between the long blocks of the 3400 and the 3800. The 3400 is a 60* v6 and the 3800 is a 90* V6. Two completely different designs and engine families.

well then that is good to know. Where is the best place to get a 3800 long block and what would be needed to make the swap from the 3400 to it.

Morad parts company is probably the best place to find everything you need for the swap.
Check this thread out. Should answer all your swap questions:

Yeah, the 3800 is a long standing/reliable v6 from GM. Designed entirely different (as earlier stated) then the 3400 (which is a bigger kin to my '94 Grand Am's 3100). Just look at the plenum/LIM/Heads along, the entire top end is different.

I don't know if a Pull-A-Part is near you (check www.pullapart.com), but 3800's are readily available at the 2 I've gone to (and prices on parts are CHEAP as you pull the parts yourself). I've pulled off some neat stuff (such as slicing strut tower sheet metal off an '86 Camaro for later use in my '84 Camaro restore).
