Lowering my car
#42
for myself, i decided to do a full suspension swap basically. i was having "weird" noises throughout my whole suspension, so i told myself i'd just save the money for all the parts, buy it and get it all done.
i bought new:
eibach springs
KYB GR-2 struts
anti-pogo washers from zzp
and most important, new strut mounts.
the strut mounts go pretty quick in our cars i think, due to a fuzed rubber to metal piece that breaks easily. whether it be from just drying up and cracking or something else i dunno, but once i did all the swap, the noise was gone. Next on my list is sway bars.
did all the work myself, along with a friends help. took about 3 hours in his driveway. pretty simple, except on the rear be careful of the brake lines, they are pretty easy to hit when your trying to knock out the strut pin. we just took the calipers off and moved them out of the way.

Pretty cool. I put the kyb adjustable shocks on. I want to get the eibach springs put on as well but I have the stock 16's. It would probably sit too low. im not sure though, the car seems high enough were it wouldnt matter if I put them on.

maybe one of you can give me some pointers on what to do. 18's are the biggest I will go on a rim. I guess I am worried that if I put the lowering springs on it will do damage to my car, because it has the stock 16's. a friend of mine recommended that I just get regular springs that are performance ones. I just dont know.

well i had the 16 inch factory hubcaps and replaced them with 18 inch rims and then got the eibach lowering springs. i have no problems now, not even for speed bumps, the tires dont rub, i dont ever bottom out so i dont think you'll have any problems.

i have stock wheels on my car...its not a problem. i have to drive up and 7 speed bumps inside my complex every day...i only scrape on 2 of them if i go straight on with them because they are bigger than the others. you just need to remember you have a lowered car, after a while it just becomes habit to turn slightly to get over bumps and in/out of driveways. and i live in san francisco, where there is a hill, speedbump, or pothole on every single road in the damn city...so yes. you'll be ok.

Cool thanks for the info. your car doesnt look too bad that it is lowered. and 1.3 inches doesnt seem too drastic. I just want to improve handeling. not have a low rider. I will also order the anti-pogo from zzp hope they will help also. knowing that I have stock 16's

By the way what part number for the springs? the reason is I read most guys saying they lowered 1.1 front and 1.0 in back. When I put the year for my car it says it will drop 1.3 front and 1.0 back part number 3886.140 is this the right one? and where did you order the anti-pogo washers from zzp right? is that a store that specialize in the grand am, cobalt ..etc
