Default Air Pressure Sensor

OK, I got my Dale Jr style rims on Friday and will hopefully have that installed next weekend. Was bs'ing with my neighbor while we washed our cars this weekend and the air pressure sensor came up. I hadn't thought about it until then. Anyone dealt with this before? Where is the sensor? Can it be moved from my factory rims to my new ones? I'm guessing it's best to talk to my shop first so they know what to do too.

the sensor is part of the vavle stem,(or may be a strap around the inside of the wheel). any time you get new tires or rotation, the sensor needs to be reprogramed. this is done (im not 100% sure on which one) either driving a few miles or by a tool. and yes the sensor can be moved to the new wheels. u currently have the high polished wheels right?? thinking of selling them??

2004 shouldn't have individual sensors in each wheel. My Dale JR car doesn't. You can tell by looking at the stem, if its plain black then its a normal stem, but if its metal with a nut on it, then its a sensor. The older GM TPMS used the wheel speed sensors to determine tire pressure. Then they went to the metal stems and individual sensors and I think the newest TPMS uses a rubber stem that's larger in diameter then a non tire pressure stem As long as the pressure is correct and all tires are the same size, you shouldn't get a tire pressure light

Got my rims on this weekend, the Dale Jr/Stewart replicas. You're right, no sensor, for some reason I missed the last reply so thanks for the info. The installer said my car's better off with the sensor. The rims look pretty slick. I'll get some pics after I get my Tony Stewart grille and install it.
