Wrong, don't do this.

You have an automatic, no need to shift yourself. And besides, doesn't your car hold shifts longer than 5,200 RPM at WOT anyway????? I would think it should.

Well the only reason why I do it is bcuz the car seems to respond better, it doesn't take as long to shift gears, & she usually doesn't make it over 5200 rpm every time before she shifts otherwise I wouldn't even bother with all that. Once I get the pulley & intercooler & all I'm most def having the computer reprogrammed to where she'll hold longer before she shifts in regular drive, if I can that is

It's wrong, and will kill your transmission if you shift yourself.

At the most you can put it in 3 for the track.

That really doesn't seem right to me that it does't hold past 5,200 RPM. My mom's Bonneville with the 3800 N/A holds shifts to 5700 RPM.

And my Monte hold shifts to 6300 RPM (granted I know I have the newer 3500).

My point is, I am pretty sure most cars (with similar engine/ tranny sets ups as yours) are factory tuned for more the 5200 RPM shifts.

In any event, I don't think shifting yourself is very healthy for your transmission.

Going out on a limb here...but I know the S/C 3800's had different gears than the N/A 3800. I remember hearing the N/A 3800 came with 3.23 gears and the S/C 3800 came with 2.93. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

It is late but gratz on going to the track. I will hopefully be taking mine back out this fall. Also if you are having alittle get together for alittle track time in the ST. Louis area...let me know depending on what is going on I might make the trip out there and have alittle fun with you all.

Thanks! Dude that would be awesome! I wanted to see if some of the people in the area wanted to get together for the day to hang out & then head over to the track that night but I didn't know if anyone would come. There are only a few more this year so i'll post up a thread here soon seeing if people wanna have a lil get together or not & what day they would wanna do it. Midnight Madness is always on Friday nights & they are usually around the thirdish week of the month

Well another suggestion then is to do it here in KC. We have a track about 15 mins from my house (www.kcir.net) is the website and they usually run if it is 40 degrees and sunny. Afterwards we can go to my house for some bbq and what not. It was last Sept when I ran my car...nice cool days makes for some better times if you get traction. This offer is open to all. If we get 3 or 4 cars then I could see if any of my Pontiac friends want to come out also and make a day of it. It is not like my Monte has never been next to a Pontiac at the track.
