6th Gen ('00-'05): Monte Carlo SS vs Cavalier
For those of you that don't think a Cavi could keep up with a stock 3.8L Monte...it's not BS. I owned an 03 Cavalier Coupe with the 2.2L Ecotec and a 5 speed manual (I also had a CAI and Exhaust on it). That car had some surprising guts for being "just a Cavalier." Having driven both the 2.2L with an auto and manual trans, I definitely think those with manual trans are the ones that have the guts to keep up. The automatics are nothing out of the ordinary.
One of my buddies had an 86 Camaro Z28 5.0L with an Automatic at the time I had my Cavalier and we raced, my Cavalier was neck and neck off the line and pulled on him as I hit 3rd gear. We did the race more than once because he couldn't believe a 4cyl just beat him.

I don't see if the O.P. said if they were both stock or not? I got a CAI and aftermarket cat and one thing I will say is this Monte SS is fast as hell off the line and that is where I got my friend in his Hyundai Veloster, but he got me on top end because I governed out. He did say he had to work at it though and that I didn't give it to him, but he also said he had that Veloster up to 140 before. I didn't know that before I raced him.
