99 stock monte vs 03 grand prix with mods
i have a 99 Z34 monte carlo and i recently raced against a 03 3.8 (non) supercharged grand prix with exaust deleted u bend and k&n filter shift kit and some other things well anyways we decided to race and when we started it was nose to nose off the start but then threw second he killed me then towards the end i started catching up in the end i lost by about 2 car lenghts i was a little mad but owell i thought i could beat him thoughts?
You will need a bunch of mods to beat him - larger tb, CAI, exhaust, PEMS, Programmer and you should have him licked.
Keep an eye out for a member named DigPhoenix. He is probably the most knowledgeable member on this sight as far as your model Monte and performance upgrades are concerned. He is very good at correcting me as I've got blinders on to people having supercharged engines.
Check out the Engines area for his name and check out his website as well for a low cost but excellent FenderWell Intake system.

no need to look further! lol
here is the break down of the cars....
they both have the same basic motor and trany. where the two cars differ is this:
the GP is about 100-150 lbs heavyer then the 99 monte. but the GP's have more agressive tuning in their PCM file that controls the motor and trany.
as for mods, the 99's dont have the issue of the "Ubend" GM did the 99monte right! also you dont have to replace the coolent tank when doing a FWI air intake like the 97-98 grand prix. as for mods i would suggest. if you plan on doing moding for a while with your car invest now in a tuner. the only two i would recomend are the DHP powertuner (one i have) or the HP tuners. both of these require a laptop to run and let you have full access to your pcm. diablosport and hypertech have very limited features
Ok mod list:
-FWI (cold air intake aka Fender Well Intake) i have a how to for them on my cardomain site.
-good tires. if you get a tuner you can go with a smaller overall dia for them this will give you better low end gearing... on my car my tires turn my 3.73 gearing into 4.10! also wider tires give you better grip to launch better.
-ported TB
-engine mount mod... you can use a wrench with the bolt installed on your factory upper mounts... and turn them 90* this keeps the motor more solid during shifts and puts more power to the ground. the effect is similar to the poly mounts they sell...but not as hard for daily driving.
-resonator delete replace it with 2.5" exhaust
-setting up a performance shift button... this activates another set of trany shift settings in the stock pcm
.....tuner stuff.....
-dial in fueling
-adjust shift points for trany... lets you get more time in each gear before shift.
-colder spark plugs so you can run more spark advance timing.

Yeah if your looking to do that engine mount mod, I put a how-to up for that.. Dirt simple. A trained monkey could do it. I noticed better throttle response.
hey thanks for all the advice ya i was suprised it was as close as it was too but also he had a huge head goin into the race and when we started out he spun pretty bad while i hardly did at all
