7th Gen ('06-'07): Rear Wheel Drive build thread, It is happening..
Bumping 96. I contacted triple edge. They only made 5 of those internal case supports back in 2015. They haven’t made any since. Little to no demand and the cost of manufacturing outweighed the benefits. I asked for a print because I could easily make one but he said there was no print available and they were hand fitted parts. He was reluctant to really offer any help. Nice people but triple edge is just a part time business and he said he really lacked the time to give me any help. That’s ok. With your picture I still maybe able to make one.
also Maniac is right. The diameter of my headers, the 4” down pipe and all the large tubing for my turbo and the inter cooler plumbing leaves absolutely no room for even the slightest tranny swap with dimensions larger than the 4t65 I have. You are probably right I could manage the 4t80 but it would mean a completely reconfigured engine compartment. And what mods are even available for the 80 that even let it live with 800 ft lbs of torque and 800 fwhp. I think I have done a great job with my 65 and found additional weak areas that I will improve on and make it even stronger. There may be a day where some of the off the shelf parts are no longer available and I will be forced to use an 80 but right now I am going to take the 65 as far as I can.

I am very familiar with upgrading a part then making extras to make a little extra money on the side - It isn't worth the effort - there is never a large enough market for the part where you can get a reasonable return on your investment. A perfect example is Triple Edge and their internal case support - they only made 5 - a costly endeavor that they could not find enough interest in the T65E Transmission race community to support the cost of continuing manufacturing of the part.
To add to that proof - take the 4th gear clutch assembly - I took a stock one - had it tested for chemical, physical (tension testing) and hardness and determined exactly what materials GM used to make the part. It was of an inferior composition and substandard. Yes, it was good for 100,000 miles on grandma's stock Impala but that was about it. To improve upon that I took a 4340 Aircraft Quality pre-hardened bar machined the part out of it and replaced the stock 3 piece unit with one piece. Then I Dyna-blue it and had the spline end broached in - on the Stock part the spline is rolled in for extra strength but not enough to help our cars. GM then took the stock part and flame hardened it on the spline end for the T65E-HD in the LS4's because it was too weak to handle the extra power of the V8 over the V6. A short term cheap solution but not really a long term solution. This process took me about 3 months between Material procurement EDM, Machine Shops, and Heat Treat facilities. Not including my time at $0.00./ Hour the part cost me about $2000.00 + - Now what could I sell that part for $3000.00??? How many guys are willing to pay $3000 for the 4th gear clutch - Not too many I bet, maybe a professional racing team. I have other parts I spent time on upgrading, some worked some did not. Now as I use the car and things either work or don't, I can upgrade when needed as I am doing now. I really do appreciate all the interest everyone has shown in my project(s). SAM ,

That is quite a history and sadly, I completely get your points. If cost is ball park $2000 for just one part because of all the one-off custom work to be done, it is tough to find a market to sell it even at cost. You definitely have a lot in that transmission and hope you are able to get it back on the road to enjoy it again.
Maniac Should have all the parts shortly - the machining/broaching/EDM should be done some time next month early December - should be back to me in February/ March and reinstalled March April - May would be late.
I am so looking forward to it- the improvements will surely increase not only the strength but the reliability and long term health of the trans.
Thank you.

No half measures with your build, you just can;t afford to half step here and have another issue. So envious, great parts to get put together. Matt applied some of your technology to my last build, but nothing of any substantial change like most of yours has. Best of luck, know it has to kill you having the SSV down hurt like it is. It is very much a terror in its own right. Would die to see peoples egos being hurt as your chew them up... LOL, they have to go home asking themselves what more can they do to take down that Silver Monte Carlo that just ate my lunch AND dinner...
Greg: I have said it before and I will say it again, 'you are my greatest fan'. Good thing about SSV and the tranny is it's winter and hopefully it will be back together before spring -[ to bring 'shock and awe' to the few unsuspecting, LOL!].
I have had some fun with it - and when it does come back that tranny is going to be that much stronger and more reliable. I speak to Matt every Friday and he is doing whatever it takes to improve upon what I already thought was strong with even better applications of parts and machine work.
Have you been out to see SSV2 yet? I am hoping you do soon, I am so looking forward to your assessment of the progress made.
