7th Gen ('06-'07): Rear Wheel Drive build thread, It is happening..
I included the plaque GM High Tech Magazine did for me on my first build. Also included a pix of the new painted rear spoiler on SSV1
And a picture of SSV2 and it's basic stance. - This picture is when it was delivered to California and is still there for the cage and sheet metal. Progress is slow - but I guess if I want it done right I just have to wait. I did have more pictures of my current progress but I am just not to good with computers and I lost about 6 pictures. I am expecting more soon. Will try and post them when I get them. For me this is extremely difficult - but to be truthful - I enjoy looking at them all the time anyways. Sam
Mel: On a project like this, like my last build you really can't budget - you just confront the expense as they happen. Everything is a work in progress with many unexpected cost issues. As they arise I just deal with them. However I can tell you that I waited a long time to put these cars together and I have worked with the shop on a pay as I go plan that works well for the both of us. Its not a question - did I save enough - its can I earn enough during the project to cover my costs and so far I have succeeded at doing just that.

Is the car street legal or just for the track. Both my cars are and in the case of this build will be street legal. I drive my first one all the time and intend to do the same for the second one. All the original factory equipment works on the first one and the only thing I won’t have on the second is the air conditioning. Don’t use it on the first one and really didnt see the need to replace it on number 2.
Track only. Note the slicks and the single cage. Well, if you want to run around with 1000 hp on the street it's your money, but I don't see the point. You will never hook that car up....just roast the tires, and street racing is just really stupid. But it's your money...and life. I would put a LS7 with a turbo and be done with it. I like Monte Carlos, but GTO's are the way to fly, and they are already RWD. Have fun and don't kill anyone.
The other thing is that wheels / tires are easy to change. Theres nothing wrong with taking a bit easier day to day on the street, but then slapping on some slicks and skinnys for an all out weekend at the drag strip or some R7s all around for some road course fun.

Not trying to knock GTOs, I daily an 05 IBM M6, but I also aspire to do something similar to my monte as the OP is doing to his so I can certainly see the appeal of wanting to build a car to fit exactly what you want from the ground up.
