I did find it is easy to remove. Easier with the mirror off. The trim is held in with one screw! I believe you remove the screw and slide it back a little bit and then it comes straight out.

And I dont see a screw hole in the ends on mine. Pretty sure I just pulled up on them and off they came. A screw does make sense, but I see no indication of a screw ever having ever been inserted through the ones I have.

If you open the door on your Monte, you can see where the keeper screw is (back section of the door, exposed easily by just opening the door). Perhaps it does not go into the plastic trim and is just a keeper/holder and it's the body actually holding the screw.
